A year after our KELOLAND News investigation "Beauty Blunder"
exposed the lack of regulation in the state when it comes to microblading eyebrows, a new law is now in place.
Governor Daugaard has signed the law that allows the regulation of tattooing in cities across the state to also including microblading.
At issue was whether microblading was actually tattooing because it doesn't last as long as a tattoo.
The law in South Dakota now says: "Tattooing includes microblading and similar techniques used to partially or fully simulate natural hair."
Most of the major cities in South Dakota require tattoo artists and establishments to be licensed. Now those rules will apply to microblading.
Our KELOLAND News investigation showed you what can happen when microblading isn't done correctly, resulting in infection.
