A cab driver in Sioux Falls has been charged with aggravated assault after a dispute over parking at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.
At about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the 2800 block of North Jaycee Lane where a cab driver told police that another driver had pointed a gun at him during an argument.
During a Thursday press conference, Public Information Officer Sam Clemens detailed that the disagreement started when a cab driver was distracted by his phone and did not pull forward during a green light. He became upset and confronted the other driver — identified as 58-year-old Jozef Adam Barszcz — who had pulled in front of him in a line outside the airport to pick up available fares.
According to police, Barszcz pointed a gun at the other driver when he approached the car. He later turned himself over to police at the Law Enforcement Center and was charged with aggravated assault.
Clemens said that Barszcz has a permit to carry a concealed weapon and believes that city and state laws do not prohibit drivers from carry a gun. He said that decision was likely up to the cab companies whether a driver can carry a gun while working.
