I've been telling people to pick a number between five and 10 and you probably have someone that received that amount of rain in southeast KELOLAND from the past couple of days. The heavy rain has caused flooding and has people thinking back to the record floods of 2014. Here's where we sit so far this month.
The heaviest of the rain is in southeast KELOLAND, with amounts over six in Sioux Falls and over eight in Yankton. There are areas that are still below average for the month such as Mitchell, Huron, Pierre and Sisseton. All coming in around a half to full inch below average.
Here's a closer look at the rain in southeast KELOLAND compared to their record amount for June. While we haven't broken any records, Vermillion and Yankton are about an inch away. You may notice that many of these records date back to 2014.
Of course, your amount probably is different than what I showed. An example is what has fallen at my house, I've measured eight and a third inches of rain this month. That's two and a quarter more than what has fallen at the Sioux Falls Airport.
