This latest hit of arctic air in KELOLAND came with a little snow and a lot of wind. By this morning, Wind Chill Advisories covered much of South Dakota, Minnesota, and northwest Iowa as the wind chills fell between -20 and -30.
Give it some time, but temperatures will warm next week. We'll have eastern South Dakota get back to the lower 40s. In a typical January, Sioux Falls will get five days when temperatures are 40 degrees and warmer. So far we're at two days.
This second January thaw will be right on time as many in KELOLAND see their climate average highs warming during the third week of the month.

These arctic outbreaks are good for those who enjoy ice fishing, but others can't wait for another thaw. By the looks of the forecast, a second January thaw is on the way but it won't happen until late next week.
