In any given year, Sioux Falls averages nearly four snowstorms where the amount ends up being four inches or more. Of those four, two of them end up being at least six inches. In general, the city usually gets a snowstorm to produce eight inches or more at least once a year.
So far, Sioux Falls has only had two storms of at least four inches. One was December 21 that gave the city 4.3 inches and the other was at the end of December, which produced four inches. So if history is an indicator, expect at least another storm or two in Sioux Falls.
Missing the bigger storms this year doesn't hold true for everyone. Yankton and Vermillion received a foot of snow on the 22 and 23 of last month, that's when Sioux Falls received less than three.
