Storm Center Update- Thursday PM, October 12th

It has been a warm and breezy day across KELOLAND, with most of the region pushing into the 60s. Winds East River have been from the south at 10-20 mph, but Rapid City and the western edge of KELOLAND has been cooler due to a strong north wind. There have also been some mid-level clouds in western and central South Dakota.

We’ll see a band of clouds moving across KELOLAND tonight as light winds switch to a more northerly direction. Low temperatures will be in the mid 30s to low 40s.

Tomorrow won’t be as windy, nor will it be as warm. We expect a clear to partly cloudy sky East River, with a NE breeze and temperatures near-normal in the low 60s. Clouds will be thicker in western South Dakota, with temperatures in the low 60s - but chances for rainfall are very minimal due to a lack of moisture.

Saturday is looking cloudy and cool, with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s. We expect to see widespread rainfall – especially in NE quarter of South Dakota – but amounts will be limited to a few tenths of an inch. Rapid City will be even cooler, in the low 50s.

Indications are that the clouds and light rainfall will clear the area by the early hours of Sunday, so we’re expecting a partly to mostly sunny Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will still be on the cool side, in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Next week is looking dry and very warm, with temperatures approaching ten degrees above-normal in the upper 60s to low 70s. Rapid City and western South Dakota may even get into the mid 70s.
