That's because the state has won a Supreme Court case on the issue.
This is a big decision that will impact every single person in the country. Of course, South Dakota is front and center in this historical case because it filed the lawsuit.
Right now you might not pay sales tax on many of your online purchases. That will soon change.
The ruling forces any online retailer that does more than $100,000 in business in the state to pay taxes -- or if they make 200 or more transactions.
Over the past few years I've talked to many local businesses who are in favor of this ruling. They say this will make it an even playing field for all retailers and could bring billions of dollars into the state every years.
The money will help counties and the state. They've been struggling with less money because of fewer sales tax dollars coming in.
KELOLAND News will have more coverage and reaction throughout the day for more on this developing story.
